"The most profound experience I ever had was the moment death was imminent. Pinned under my own Porsche, with both lungs collapsed and my spleen ruptured, I had to let go. Let go of control, judgements, expectations, attachments, and dreams. Learning how to let go, while maintaining perspective, is life changing and I hope to pass this onto all those I cross path with." ~Wyatt
As a Doctor of Emergency Medicine I was constantly frustrated by the modern practice of medicine. Our system focuses on treating the symptom, not the root cause and not the whole person. This was in conflict with my midwest ethics and my oath to "first do not harm". Health & healing does not come from 15 minute doctor’s visits and prescriptions. It comes from education, making changes within, and treating the person as a whole.
I masked my inner frustration with my career choice. I bought cars I didn’t need, houses that were too big, and exotic vacations. A cycle of consumerism and work to keep me numb. I felt trapped, even though that was not true.
I was lucky to receive a wake up call in the form of a life threatening accident. This began a series of events leading me to practice medicine in Australia. While there, the tragic loss of an inspirational friend left me devastated. I decided then I would stop saying “someday I will do this/that”. Someday is not guaranteed. Yoga had always been one of those things. Eventually, my personal practice took me to India to learn more, but never with the intention of teaching yoga. But on my return I could no longer ignore what I knew to be the truth. I took the leap, quit my job, and moved to Bali to start my Journey in finding the type of Health Care I would want to provide in the future. .
Since then I have been on a continuous journey of learning in order to bring health, happiness, and wellness to those seeking it by Integrating Functional Medicine, yoga, nutrition, meditation, acupuncture, self inquiry, and other modalities to treat the whole person.
All too often people think “I can’t do this”, “he isn’t talking about people like me”, “I’m too far gone”, “I’m too old”. Nothing is further from the truth. If you have those thoughts, YOU are exactly the person I want to help.
